In this 8-week program, facilitated by Gus Castellanos, M.D., participants will learn about mindfulness and practices to increase self-awareness, self-regulation, and compassion, as well as tools to cope more effectively with both short and long-term stressors. No prior experience or knowledge about mindfulness is required. Graduates of the course report improve focus, resiliency, and the capacity to recover more quickly from challenging events.

In this workshop, we will review the research using mindfulness for sleep disorders and practice techniques that have proven efficacy in insomnia.     With the current opioid crisis as a backdrop, this 7-hour workshop is open to anyone interested in the impact of substance use disorders on the individual and society, and how and when mindfulness-based interventions are beneficial in the treatment of substance use disorders as well as in chronic pain.

There will be discussions on mindfulness, addiction, pain, and stress. Recent neuroscience and clinical research of Mindfulness-Based Interventions for relapse prevention & for chronic pain will be presented. We will practice mindful meditations, including mindful eating during lunch, with time for inquiry, so that participants may integrate their direct experience with the didactic portions of the workshop.
